Description

Water Turbidity Sensor

A water turbidity sensor is used to measure the clarity or cloudiness of water by detecting the amount of light scattered by suspended particles. It typically consists of an infrared light source and a photodetector placed at an angle. When water contains more impurities (such as dirt, silt, or microorganisms), more light is scattered, which changes the sensor output. This sensor is widely used in water quality monitoring, environmental systems, and industrial applications.

Technical Specifications:

  • Operating Voltage: 3.3V – 5V DC
  • Operating Current: ~30 mA
  • Output Type: Analog and Digital (depending on module)
  • Detection Method: Infrared light scattering
  • Response Time: < 500 ms
  • Operating Temperature: 5°C to 90°C
  • Measurement Range: Typically 0 – 1000 NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Units)
  • Interface: 3-pin or 4-pin (VCC, GND, AO, DO)
  • Cable Length: Usually ~20 cm

Features:

  • Measures water clarity based on turbidity levels
  • Provides both analog and digital output signals
  • Easy to interface with microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, etc.)
  • Waterproof probe suitable for liquid immersion
  • Fast response time for real-time monitoring
  • Adjustable sensitivity (on modules with comparator)
  • Low power consumption
  • Compact and easy to install

Applications:

  • Water quality monitoring systems
  • Aquariums and fish farming
  • Industrial liquid processing
  • Environmental monitoring projects
  • Wastewater treatment systems
  • Smart irrigation and agriculture systems
  • DIY electronics and IoT-based water analysis
